Why Kannada Does Not Need Aspirated Consonants
Kannada does not phonologically distinguish aspirated stops (ಖ/ಘ/ಛ/ಝ…) from their unaspirated counterparts. The mahaprana characters were borrowed from Sanskrit and serve no functional purpose; eliminating them would simplify the script without any loss of meaning.
